choices


a thousand fibrous roots
no tongue

          a thick green stem                      no penis

     alternate blades of leaves
no shoulder blades

     tapering cobs         no beating heart

 milky sweet pearls of corn
      no nipples

         a whorly waterproof wrap
    no toiling arms 

        silky tassels blowing in the breeze
no larynx

 these are the choices     
     made by corn.
